South of the Rising Sun
This work was part of my PhD with creative practice research (2015-2019) and explored how photography and photographic practices can be used as a way to understand and make places. The work is focused on the Waikato River located in the North Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. Here the Waikato River is perceived as a place where multiple practices and discourses entangle forming a diverse set of dynamic and intersecting meanings. the images in this sequence were informed by both Indigenous Māori and Western perspectives.
South of the Rising was was exhibited at Ramp Gallery in 2018
